Live interview:
Revolutionizing the low power FPGA Market
On 5 October, Bits&Chips meets Eric van der Heijden, vice president of sales EMEA at Lattice Semiconductor. Eric spent most of his 27-year career in programmable logic. He joined Lattice shortly after the company was restructured to focus primarily on programmable logic.
There have always been only a handful of players in the FPGA market. Xilinx, Altera and Actel are now part of AMD, Intel and Microchip, respectively. Obama and Trump prevented a $1.3 billion takeover of Lattice by a Chinese investor and it is now the only semiconductor company with an exclusive focus on programmable logic.
Lattice is very successful in low-end market segments like IoT and edge computing, where excellence in low power, performance, reliability and small form factor contribute to its success in the automotive, industrial and communications markets.
René Raaijmakers will talk with Eric about Lattice’s recent turnaround, the secrets of the Nexus platform, its foundry strategy and challenges for the future.

About Lattice Semiconductor
Lattice Semiconductor is the world’s leading supplier (by volume) of small form factor, low power field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Lattice FPGAs, software, and IP help embedded developers quickly and easily create next-generation AI/ML co-processing, embedded vision, and secure system control applications for the communications, computing, industrial, automotive, and consumer markets.

In 2019, Lattice announced the Lattice Nexus™ FPGA platform; the first major technology update to the low power FPGA market in nearly a decade. The Nexus platform enables Lattice to design FPGAs that significantly outperform similar competing devices in low power consumption, small size, processing performance, and reliability. Lattice also markets solution stacks that provide customers with a comprehensive collection of the hardware and software needed to quickly and easily implement application designs based on Lattice FPGAs, including modular hardware platforms, example demonstrations, reference designs, IP cores, software tools for development, and custom design services. The company’s long-standing relationships in the electronics ecosystem and commitment to world-class support help Lattice customers quickly and easily unleash their innovation to create a smart, secure, and connected world.
