Despite previous assurances from their employer, part of the personnel working at Philips’ Drachten site is worried that divestment of the Domestic Appliances division will impact their jobs. According to local newspaper Leeuwarder Courant, about 150 developers of products such as coffee makers and vacuum cleaners feel they are in limbo. It will take up to eighteen months before they know where they stand, as this is the deadline the company has set for the sale.
A Philips spokesperson told Bits&Chips that whatever happens, there’s a bright future for everyone involved – be it at Philips, or at the new company. A team is being assembled to disentangle Domestic Appliances from the parent organization, which will decide who will stay and who will have to transfer. The choice is not straightforward, as some developers work on multiple products.
