NXP invests 8 million euros in Kalray to enhance collaboration on the development, marketing and distribution of their auntonomous driving solutions. This comes a little more than a year after the Dutch semiconductor company announced it was teaming up with the French (link in Dutch) to integrate their massively parallel processor array (MPPA) technology into its S32 family of automotive processors. With this new equity investment from NXP, the duo is looking to take the next step toward deployment solutions ranging from L2 (partial driving automation) to L5 (full vehicle automation).
NXP and Kalray intend to bring an integrated, scalable solution to the automotive market, including CPU processing, neural network computing, functional safety capabilities and an optimized toolchain – together providing the necessary requirements for next-generation advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems. “Delivering a platform for autonomous driving, integrating the required AI and safe compute performance, requires high levels of collaboration,” says Henri Ardevol, SVP and GM of Automotive Processing at NXP. “Kalray’s scalable, open platform and heritage in the industry is a complement to NXP’s deep experience, dedication to safety and portfolio in the automotive space. We’re very happy to combine our expertise with Kalray to help our customers deliver increasingly automated vehicles.”
