The US is looking to further restrict the sales of technology items to Huawei. According to several media reports, the US Commerce Department will stop approving export licenses for items that were previously still issued, including 4G, Wifi 6 and 7, artificial intelligence, high-performance and cloud computing components. No official statement has been made, although China has already voiced concern.

Claiming the telecom giant poses a national security risk, Washington put Huawei on the so-called entity list in 2019. This restricts exports without a US government license. In the following year, the US government expanded on those curbs by seeking to cut the telecom company off from chip suppliers using US-made technology. This prevents Huawei from sourcing high-end chips from TSMC, for example.
