The US has imposed export restrictions to Chinese foundry SMIC, Bloomberg reports. “SMIC and its subsidiaries present an unacceptable risk of diversion to a military end-use,” cites the news agency from a letter of the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security.

China’s largest chipmaker hasn’t been added to the so-called Entity List, which restricts the sale of all US items and some of foreign origin. The list of military end-use restrictions that SMIC is now subject to, isn’t as comprehensive. Previously, however, it has been reported that the Trump administration is considering adding the company to the Entity List.
