University research rankings show the strength of Dutch higher education

The 2020 World University Research Rankings are out and the Netherlands is looking strong. In all, eight Dutch universities ranked in the top 50, with two technical universities cracking the top 10, globally. The top-ranked Dutch institution was Eindhoven University of Technology, rated as number five in the world, followed by Wageningen University & Research at the number eight spot. The other two Dutch TUs, Delft and Twente, came in at spots 20 and 31, respectively.

The top overall position belonged to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from the US. The best performing European university was the Technical University of Denmark, ranking second overall. Belgium’s KU Leuven came in just in front of TU Delft, at number 19.
