TUE honors ASML’s Martin van den Brink

Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) is awarding an honorary doctorate to ASML’s Martin van den Brink, who has announced his retirement from the company. “ASML owes its technological successes mainly to Van den Brink’s visionary leadership. He’s always recognized the interdisciplinary nature of the challenges of complex machines, combining his deep knowledge of physics, materials, mechatronics and electronics,” the TUE writes in a statement.

“As an innovator and visionary, he’s the undisputed technical-scientific brains behind the success of ASML, where he’s shown himself to be a true master of integrating disciplines and systems engineering,” comments Maarten Steinbuch, university professor of control systems technology and honorary doctorate supervisor.

“Awarding him the honorary doctorate isn’t only a more than deserved recognition of his achievements but also of his contribution to the body of knowledge about high-tech systems, mechanics and materials science, and mechanical engineering in particular,” adds Patrick Anderson, dean and honorary doctorate supervisor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The TUE is also awarding an honorary doctorate to Karen Scrivener, head of the Laboratory of Construction Materials at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), for her research in the field of cement and concrete. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on 13 June.
