The Institutes Organization of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO-I) has announced that Ton de Kok will serve as the next director of CWI – the National Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science. De Kok will take the reigns starting on the first of October, as the current director, Jos Baeten, retires from the institute after nearly a decade in service.

After receiving his doctorate from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, De Kok joined Philips to explore ways to better connect logistics and production with each other and the market. Currently, he’s a full-time professor of quantitative analysis of logistical management problems, at Eindhoven University of Technology. “As director of CWI, I hope to further assist in finding the right connections between the scientific challenges we’re working on and the societal issues of the 21st century: scarcity of people, resources and raw materials, and utilizing the technological opportunities available to us.”
