TNO and Imec have signed a letter of intent committing to work together on integrated photonics. Both research centers have been working on photonics innovations for some time, but will now join forces. The collaboration will start in 2023 within Holst Centre, in which Imec and TNO have been collaborating since 2005.

Working with other organizations from the Photondelta ecosystem, including Eindhoven University of Technology, University of Twente and Photonics Integration Technology Center, Holst Centre intends to bridge academic and industrial research. “We will combine Imec’s photonic microchip technology in Leuven, Imec’s design expertise in the Netherlands and TNO’s optics and systems integration knowledge to help develop new sustainable solutions in different industries,” commented Ton van Mol, director TNO at Holst Centre.
