State secretary: no evidence for state involvement in ASML IP theft

Echoing statements from ASML, the Dutch government did not find any evidence that the Chinese state was involved with the IP theft at ASML Brion, state secretary Eric Wiebes of Economic Affairs writes to parliament (link in Dutch). He does acknowledge that China actively engages in economic espionage and that the modus operandi in the ASML case featured similarities with Chinese espionage practices, however. Wiebes adds that companies themselves are responsible for protecting against corporate espionage, but support from national authorities is available.
