Antwerp-based Byteflies has been awarded 4 million euros in subsidy for developing wearable patches that can monitor epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and cardio-respiratory patients. The startup partners with three Flemish hospitals for the product’s medical aspects but also with several companies for additional materials and production expertise. Quad Industries from Sint-Niklaas handles the printing of electronics, the German company Henkel works on the required ‘electrical’ ink and Japanese partner Nitto Denko is specialized in adhesive tapes and such. Byteflies’ Plug ’n Patch project is one of four projects to be awarded a subsidy by the Flemish Department of Economy, Science and Innovation.
