The US is set to update the export curbs for chipmaking tools and AI chips, according to a Reuters report. The update is said to align the rules for US companies with those implemented by the Dutch and Japanese governments. US officials warned their Chinese counterparts ahead of the planned changes this time, hoping to minimize damage to diplomatic relations, according to an anonymous source. The US has been restricting semiconductor technology exports for a couple of years now, but the most far-reaching ones were announced one year ago, on 7 October.
