The Netherlands has been selected as the headquarters of the NATO Innovation Fund. Over the next 15 years, the NIF will invest 1 billion euros in early-stage startups and other venture capital funds for the development of advanced technologies that have military uses, including AI, biotechnology and aeronautics. The NIF will be officially launched during the NATO summit in Vilnius in July this year.

The Dutch government expects that the establishment of this fund in the Netherlands will increase the possibility for innovative Dutch startups to gain access to capital. “More investment in high-tech is urgently needed,” says Minister of Defense Kajsa Ollongren. “It’s great that the Netherlands, as a knowledge nation, can host the fund.”
