Following a parliamentary vote, Dutch Economic Affairs Secretary Micky Adriaansens has canceled the next call for proposals for the National Growth Fund (NGF), effectively suspending the public investment fund. Her decision follows a parliamentary vote requested by D66. This party wants the NGF to continue and filed a motion to that effect, but the parties currently trying to build a coalition were unwilling to support it. Although this doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to dismantle the NGF, its fate now seems to hang in the balance. A broad coalition of industry stakeholders, universities and research organizations have called upon lawmakers to continue private R&D stimuli with public funds.
