The Indian state of Maharashtra has taken the first steps towards building the world’s first hyperloop. By granting the 117.5 kilometer high-speed link between Mumbai and Pune infrastructure status, the bid process can commence. As the initial plan was put on the table by the US company Virgin Hyperloop One and Dubai port operator DP World, these two parties may have the best chance of winning the bid. Construction is to take place in phases, with the first phase of about 10 kilometers primarily to show safety and viability of the technology. The costs associated with the entire project are estimated to be 10 billion dollars.
