Global semiconductor revenue is projected to total 676 billion dollars in 2022, an increase of 13.6 percent from 2021, according to Gartner. The still increasing average selling prices due to the chip shortages are a major driving force of the growth. Nonetheless, the market research firm expects supply constraints to gradually ease through 2022 and prices to stabilize with the improving inventory situation.

That’s an overall picture, however. For the automotive market, concerns over semiconductor supply – particularly microcontrollers (MCUs), power management integrated circuits (PMICs) and voltage regulators – will extend into 2023. PCs and smartphones have already eased as production moved into the off-season combined with increased semiconductor supply in the market.
