Most of Dutch tech companies increased their spending on research and development on Dutch soil last year, a survey of Technisch Weekblad (TW) shows (link in Dutch). ASML increased its R&D spending from 1,078 to 1,359 million euros, Philips from 702 to 733 million euros and KPN from 365 to 447 million euros. These companies make up the top 3 of TW’s R&D expenditure ranking, which doesn’t focus exclusively on high tech. Pharmaceutical company Janssen (413 million euros) comes in fourth and DSM (205 million euros) fifth. Of the major tech companies, NXP was the only one to slightly decrease its R&D spending, going from 213 million euros in 2018 to 204 million last year.
