The semiconductor industry has proved remarkably resilient in this coronavirus-plagued year. IC Insights is expecting the industry to grow by 6 percent in 2020. The 15 top chip companies are increasing sales by slightly more than twice as much, ie by 13 percent. In contrast, in 2019, the top-15 semiconductor suppliers registered a collective 15 percent decline in sales.

There are only minor shuffles in the ranking of the top-10 semiconductor sales leaders, although Nvidia managed to climb two spots registering a huge 50 percent sales increase. Two new entrants into the top 15, Mediatek and AMD, also saw their sales expand strongly, by 35 and 41 percent, respectively. NXP, which last year secured the 14th spot, has dropped out of the top 15.
IC Insights includes foundries since it has always viewed the ranking as a top supplier list, not a market share ranking. This means that in some cases, the semiconductor sales are double-counted.
