Karl McGoldrick is stepping down as CEO of 3D solid-state lithium-ion battery maker Lionvolt. Heâll be succeeded by Kevin Brundish, who was previously employed at UK-based battery cell manufacturer AMTE Power. McGoldrick says in a Linkedin post that Lionvolt is entering a new phase, having made âstrong progress in the platform technology while developing the path towards industrialization.â McGoldrickâs specialty is putting early-phase startups on a road to success.

A spinoff from TNO Holst Centre, Lionvolt is working on a âbattery foilâ consisting of a substrate covered with an array of micropillars, each of which may be considered to be a tiny battery. Billions of them packed together make for a battery thatâs safe, lightweight and 200 percent more performant than state-of-the-art Li-ion batteries, Lionvolt claims.
