Director Joost Frenken has announced his departure from research institute ARCNL. Per 1 July 2022, he’s accepted the position of dean at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen. He’ll succeed Jasper Knoester, who became the dean of the Faculty of Science at Leiden University last January.

Frenken has been ARCNL’s director since the research institute was started in 2014 by the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM), the University of Amsterdam, VU University Amsterdam and ASML (link in Dutch). Recently, the University of Groningen joined ARCNL as an associate partner.

“All parties involved recognize that ARCNL is performing really well and they praise the ARCNL team and the way the institute is organized. This has made me realize that my task to build up ARCNL has now been completed. With ARCNL in its next phase, I’d like to pass the baton to a new director,” said Frenken. A successor hasn’t yet been announced.
