America’s top lawyer pushes for European 5G powerhouse

It’s no secret that Huawei’s supremacy over the 5G wireless technology market has got the Trump Administration feeling uneasy. After numerous warnings to its allies in the West, many of which have fallen on deaf ears, it appears the US government is exploring all options to stop the Chinese dominance. In the latest installment of the continuing saga between the Chinese tech giant and the American regime, Trump’s Attorney General (AG) William Barr floated the idea of a US takeover of Huawei’s biggest competitors, Ericsson and Nokia.

During his keynote address at the US Department of Justice’s China Initiative Conference, AG Barr acknowledged that the Sweden-based Ericsson and the Finland-based Nokia were the only realistic alternatives in the fight. “Our economic future is at stake. We have to bear in mind that, given the narrow window we face, the risk of losing the 5G struggle with China should vastly outweigh all other considerations,” he said. “Putting our large market and financial muscle behind one or both of these firms would make it a more formidable competitor and eliminate concerns over its staying power. We and our closest allies certainly need to be actively considering this approach.”
